Sony have slashed the MSRP on their PS5 and PC VR HMD starting from March 1st in most territories it is sold in. At launch, Sony’s 2nd generation VR headset launched at $599.99 | €649.99 | £569.99 | ¥79,980 across US, EU, UK and Japanese regions. Although it has often been available for under that price, they have now made that official with its new $399.99 / €449.99 / £399.99 / ¥66,980 price across those same regions. Taking £160/$200 dollars of the headset package, Sense controllers, and even a free code for Horizon: Call of the Mountain which was a great launch title for the headset on PS5.

This now places the PSVR2 in direct competition with the other big VR headset, the MetaQuest 3, one that is unique in the VR space as it can be used across PS5, PS5 Pro and PC. This is a simple plug and play option with the use of the PSVR2 Adapter and even without one if you have GPU with a USB-C Virtual Link cable, as per my review when PC support was added by PlayStation last year. The PSVR2 was also, quietly, updated last year with low latency handtracking support. Mea ning you can now play games with no controller at all, such as Waltz of the Wizard, that support this technology.

The PSVR2 headset does offer a premium, ergonomic, and now, very cost effective VR solution for PlayStation 5 owners, PC owners, or both, that want to get into Virtual Reality gaming. As covered in a review at launch, the headset offers an excellent feature set with OLED display, 2160p per eye, inside/outside tracking, Foveated rendering and more that can deliver some excellent VR titles such as Gran Turismo 7, Alien Inception, Townsmen VR, Resident Evil 7 and many more. And at this new price, it could be a great time to enter the world of VR gaming.
